Child Support Overview

Because parents have a legal obligation in Missouri to support their children, the court will decide how Child Support will be handled in your divorce by looking at the incomes of both spouses, the number of children and household expenses. The court may also make adjustments for health insurance, child care and visitation credits before completing Form 14, which is the form that is used to determine the specific amounts of support.

Determining the numbers can be challenging especially if one parent is self-employed or unemployed but the court will use the assumption that both spouses are bound to provide for the care of their children.

If you disagree with the amount of support, you will need to introduce evidence to support your claims.

You need an experienced divorce attorney on your side.
