Last year didn’t end on a happy note for comedic actor Russell Brand and his wife, singer Katy Perry. After just 14 months of marriage, Brand filed for divorce on Dec. 30, according to media reports.
But the news on matrimony wasn’t all bad as the final curtain fell on 2011. Many media sources were reporting that former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver were attempting reconciliation.
The Brand-Perry split had been rumored for months before his late-year announcement. Even so, it apparently took a number of observers and friends by surprise.
The Huffington Post speculated that all the time the couple spent apart while working on separate media projects — ranging from concert tours for Perry to film shoots for Brand — finally took their toll on the marriage. While the website notes that the time apart is the logical reason for the break-up, the tabloid media is unlikely to be satisfied with that answer and is much more likely to try to dig up dirt and generate scandal.
It seems likely that the two artists will both draw on their experiences and heartbreak for future endeavors. She’s said to have kept a journal of their marital problems; a journal that might provide inspiration for future song lyrics.
The song might remain the same for Schwarzenegger and Shriver, however. After announcing an impending divorce, the power couple is reportedly considering reconciliation.
Their combined net worth is an estimated $500 million; a marital estate that might have to be split down the middle in community property state California. The pair never signed a prenuptial agreement.
The couple has four children together, two of whom are still under 18.
